About The Brockberry
History
The Brockberry Café & Suites is located in historic downtown Brockville. It was established in February 1993 by Roger Galvin and his partner. It was opened in the original heritage rooms. In 1999 Roger expanded the Brockberry to include the sunroom and patio. In December of 2005, the Brockberry was purchased by Josie Groniger.
Our Chef
Chef, Seth O'Hara, brings 25 years of culinary experience to our kitchen. With Seth's education and experience in restaurants in Toronto, Paris and New York, he brings flair to the presentation and a unique flavour to his dishes, making the Brockberry a favourite to many. The Brockberry is known for our entrée salads and Poppy Seed Dressing.
Our Staff
The Brockberry Café & Suites is listed with the Ontario Tourism Education Corporation (OTEC) as a Service Excellence Organization. To receive this certification 100% management and 90% staff are required to complete and pass the training offered through the Brockville Chamber of Commerce.
All of our full time kitchen staff have completed the Health Unit's Food Safety Training Course. And all servers have completed the training with Smart Serve Ontario and are Smart Serve certified.
Green Business
The Brockberry Café & Suites has been designated a Green Business by the Brockville Chamber for implementing strategies to reduce waste, save energy, and become more environmentally conscious.
In order to receive this recognition applicants complete a survey, which includes a list of green practices. Points are then awarded for meeting the requirements of listed items. The amount of points are based on the level of difficulty of that item or the expense required to implement that green strategy. A total of twenty points is required to be recognized as a green business.
The Brockberry has implemented a number of practices to become a Green Business, some of which include having an Ontario Energy Audit, changing the lighting, and composting.
